Overview of the Ten Tools of Fatherhood

Like any skilled workman, a father needs a strong set of reliable tools to help him complete his job. These are the Ten Tools of Fatherhood—and they are effective in every home in which they are put to work.

It’s important to have a Noble Vision of where you are trying to lead your family. Just as important is making sure that your wife shares that Vision. And getting your kids to buy-in to the Vision with their inputs and ideas makes it even more powerful.

However, while a shared a Noble Family Vision is a powerful force for family good, by itself it is not enough. The goal, of course, is to build on your Noble Family Vision over time, with the right tools, and finally see it come to pass. That is the primary aim—seeing your Noble Family Vision come to pass—and it is one worthy of a man’s life work.

I’m not saying it’s easy, but with the right tools, dedication and help, you can do it. In fact, I know that it is possible. Yes, it will take hard work, but at least this is something that is truly worth working hard for. It will also take the right tools. In fact, it will take 10 specific sets of tools, which we are going to look at together in the following chapters. It will also take the help of family and friends who are on similar journeys. Just like the pioneers of the Old West experienced, no one successfully makes this journey alone. Finally, it takes God’s grace, because each of us will make mistakes along the way. Trust me, I have made more than my share. But, as the Bible teaches us over and over again, His grace is sufficient for all who ask (see 2 Corinthians 12:9; Philippians 4:13).
